Name: Martine Beauvarlet
About the Artist: Martine is a 16th century widow managing one of her son’s estates. She resides in her familial home in Langres France, which is located in the Champagne region of France near the German border, north of the Duchy of Burgundy. Before her marriage, Martine spent a number of years in a convent, where she learned how to read, write, illuminate and maintain the abbey ledgers. While her current duties as a chatelaine consume much of her time, she tries to find time to practice her illumination.
