

Iron Chef Trimaris III The rules of battle are simple Competing Iron Chefs & Their Teams must create two dishes for a lunchtime meal based on a surprise ingredient. The winner of the battle is hailed throughout the land as the Trimarian Iron Chef. The Rules of Engagement 1. Each Chef may have up to 2 helpers. All Chefs must be pre-registered, and helpers can only work on one team. 2 weeks prior to the challenge the chefs will be notified for confirmation. Those not responding will not be allowed to compete. Chefs have till midnight on 12/13/08 to register. 2. Chefs are required to bring their own support ingredients. A list of acceptable period ingredients will be provided. An assortment of period spices will be on hand, a list of what will be provided will be supplied ahead of time. (The spices will be on a first come first served basis.) Some equipment such as mortar & pestles will be available for sharing. (Store bought ingredients are acceptable. For example you can buy a dozen eggs at the store, you do not have to go to a farm to get them) 3. If the contestants wish to bring something not on the list of approved ingredients they must gain approval from the “Marshal” before the day of the event. The best way to get approval is to submit copies of documentation on a food item this is as easy as a copy of an original (& translation if not in English) recipe from between 900 a.d. to 1600 a.d. Or you can submit archeological evidence. 4. Each chef may bring as many pieces of equipment, cooking utensils, pots and pans as they like. All equipment must be self-sustaining (no electric will be provided or permitted in the competition). **Equipment is not required to be period. ** 5. Each Chef’s team will be responsible for making and serving a minimum of 2 dishes containing the “secret” ingredient within the time allotted. The total score will be based on 3 criteria: 1. Taste (50%), 2. presentation (25%), 3. creativity (25%) 6. Each dish needs to contain 5 servings. All portions are to be placed on a single plate not on separate plates. Contestants MUST provide their own platters, dishes and serving utensils. 7. The “secret” ingredient will be announced at 8:30 am. Each team will have 4 hours to cook and plate. Each team will draw a presentation time slot. Their heat source may be ready to go before they begin cooking but no cooking will be permitted, not even water on to boil. **Example if a team draws the 1 pm time slot they will not be permitted to begin cooking till 9:00 am. 8. Each team will be given a name card that is to be presented with the dishes. Teams are encouraged to create a clever name for themselves. The judges will award a bonus to the best name. 9. The “Marshal” will have the final say in all matters. Registration 1. The chef must submit in writing their name and contact information to the “marshal” at Catrusel@tampabay.rr.com or by mail to Staci Bush/Catherine Russell 12422 Cardiff Dr. Tampa, Fl 33625 2. No registration will be accepted verbally. 3. The chef will be given a set of rules that will be subject to change. 1 month before the event they will receive a final draft of rules that will be binding for the competition. If there are changes over the course of the registration time period, chefs will receive updates as changes are made. A set of rules can be requested at any time. 4. Chefs have till 12/11/09 to register. No exceptions. 5. Any questions can also be directed to the above address and the “marshal” will respond with-in a week of submission.
