St. George and the Dragon Poetry Performance Competition The Canton of Mathom Trove with the assistance of the Performing Arts Guild of Trimaris will be sponsoring a Bardic Competition at St. George’s Faire on Saturday, April 24, 2010. The competition will commence in the Chapel following the conclusion of the Crested Helm Tourney and the selection of prizes by the combatants and their consorts. The winner of the Bardic Competition will have the honor of performing their winning piece at Feast that evening. Following the event, they will receive an inscribed and illuminated copy of their work courtesy of Feileacan Ghairdin, the Household of Mistress Maol Mide ingen Medra. The Rules: 1) The subject matter is to be that of St George and the Dragon. 2) The entries are to be original poetry performed solo by the author. 3) It is requested that the entrants attempt an emulation of a period style of writing and performance. 4) Documentation is not a requirement for entry into this competition but is encouraged in the interest of furthering the entrants' knowledge of the Performance Based Arts.** For more information about this Bardic Competition, please contact Despotissa Eirene Agapia at: pagot1@yahoo.com **NOTE: As a Laurel whose interests are focused on the Performance Based Arts, I always encourage research and documentation into the origins of period writing and/or performance styles. I quite realize that in justifying these aspects of the Arts, research and documentation can be somewhat of a daunting task and even a bit intimidating to those who are less than focused on those areas of the work. In saying this, I would like to reemphasize to those interested in entering that as this is to be a Performance Based competition, no submitted documentation will be used as a judging consideration. The composition and performance of documentable period forms and styles are always encouraged they are just however, not a requirement in this particular competition.
